INVITATION TO THE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE MEDIA
What: The African Union (AU) will commemorate the 6th Edition of the AU Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development (PCRD) Month from 1 to 30 November 2026. This year’s commemoration marks the first transition from PCRD Awareness Week to a month-long observance.
When: 1-30 November 2026, at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Who: African Union Commission, Member States, Regional Economic Communities, Regional Mechanisms, AU Organs and Partners
Why: The 2026 commemoration marks the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the AU PCRD Policy in Banjul in 2006. Under the theme “Twenty Years of Building and Sustaining Peace: From Policy to Action,” PCRD Month will provide an opportunity to celebrate achievements, reflect on lessons learned, and mobilize collective action to accelerate the implementation of the revised AU PCRD Policy.
Objective: To mark this important milestone, a series of activities and events will be held in Addis Ababa and Cairo throughout November 2026. Key highlights will include:
- Media Engagement – 4 November 2026: The AU Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security (PAPS), H.E. Ambassador Bankole Adeoye, will engage with African and international media based in Addis Ababa on a broad range of issues relating to peace, security and governance, as well as the Department’s priorities, activities and achievements.
- Annual Meeting of the AU Peace and Security Council (PSC) on PCRD: A dedicated session of the PSC to reflect on progress, challenges and priorities in advancing post-conflict reconstruction and development across the continent.
- Continental Forum Commemorating the 20th Anniversary of PCRD: A high-level Forum to reflect on two decades of the AU’s PCRD framework, share lessons learned and explore opportunities to accelerate its implementation.
- Photo Exhibition – “AU PCRD: 20 Years, 20 Milestones”: An exhibition showcasing key achievements, milestones and impact of the AU’s PCRD efforts over the past two decades.
- Launch of the Third Edition of the AU Journal on Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development: The launch of the third edition of the Journal, dedicated to the theme of maritime security and peacebuilding in Africa.
- A multi-stakeholder dialogue on youth leadership in PCRD; and
- An engagement meeting with African Ambassadors accredited to Cairo.
Through these activities, the African Union and its partners seek to renew continental commitment to sustainable peace, recovery, reconstruction and development, while strengthening collective efforts to translate PCRD policy commitments into tangible action.
